IBS in the country has had an early presence as far back as the 1950s. The first IBS introduced in the country was the Pekeliling Flats in Kuala Lumpur, which today is slowly being dismantled to be replaced by a new modern development.
Over the 50 year period of the building industry we have seen various products of IBS being used in the country. Some of this we come to know as the tunnel form, shear wall, sandwich panel, others of a similar applied concept and prefab concrete

If we consider the market share as a measure for success in penetrating the industry, it is clear that none of these systems or building methods is successful. The use of systems building is less than 0.1% in the industry.
So how do Malaysian s built? Through the conventional means of using concrete framing and brick walls. Single storey residential to multi storey buildings are in majority constructed in the conventional way.
